Benny Benassi Long Beach Concert reviews
One of those rare once in a lifetime events.
In the last 37 years, this was the eleventh time I saw Benny Benassi perform, and it was her best performance by far. I had not liked most of her latest album called Slipstreem, because I prefer the rockers, but watching those other songs from this album being performed live completely changed my perspective. The sound and lights were just perfect during her entire show, creating an emotional roller coaster ride. Her heart and soul clearly lies with the music and vibe of New Orleans, as she noted how the audience there always knows when to be quiet and when to respond. Up on stage, it felt like having a long lost friend. Surprise guests, including John Cleary and Allen Toussaint, joined her later in the show. Paul Brady also played and sang on two songs with her, along with a harmonica player whose name I forgot. From the entire weekend, I was too exhausted to catch her at The Maple Leaf Bar two nights later with her good friend John Cleary (she was there, but I don't know if she jammed with him).
